Heartbased goal setting

Many years ago I facilitated organization strategic business planning and professional goal setting.  There was a model of evaluating goals called SMART.  SMART stood for the following five criteria:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable or Actionable
  • Realistic
  • Time-Oriented.

I find those criteria to be somewhat helpful but they don’t nearly account for intuition, our own unique energy and make-up, and self-differentiation.  So in honor of doing things our way, here’s my new acronym for New  Year’s Visioning:

  • Says Yes
  • Meaningful
  • Available
  • Relief
  • Trust

Say yes.

Can I feel a yes in my body, heart and soul to putting intention and energy towards this area?

Meaningful

Is it meaningful to me? Does this area of focus matter to me in the heart, body and soul?  Or is it something that I “think” I should be doing but really don’t care about?

Available

Is it available for me now?  This means can I see myself attaining it this year?  I don’t have to know how but can I feel it as being possible?

Relief

Do I feel relief when I think of this area?  Does my body feel excited and relief when I think of this vision area?  Or does my body constrict and feel tension?  Relief is what we are looking for.

Trust

Do I trust that this area of focus serves my expansion?  Do I trust that the Universe wants to support me in this?

Enjoy this process. And feel free to add your own version of SMART.
